On a sunny day, take a stroll down Old Montréal’s poetic streets, pick up a sandwich and stop by the Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle to enjoy a leisurely lunch on designer Michel Dallaire’s award-winning urban furniture. At the heart of the Quartier International, the new square brings together Montréal’s business hub and its historical and cultural centres. In this urban oasis planted with 88 trees indigenous to the region, you’ll discover one of Riopelle’s most important works: La Joute, a spectacular sculpture set in a fountain and enclosed in a ring of fire. Every day at night, the interaction of light and mist blown onto the sculpture create a unique spectacle. Right next to the square, the Palais des Congrès, flamboyant with its multicoloured glass façade, features a profusion of artwork.
